It is imperative that companies do all that they can to ensure that they comply with all relevant legislation. Ensuring compliance on one site is a difficult task, but when you look at multiple sites, potentially in numerous countries, the need for an effective safety management system can be seen.
One way ensuring compliance with machinery safety legislation is by using a User Requirement Specification (URS) when purchasing machinery. This is used as part of the contractual negotiations to ensure that safety has been taken into account. Within this type of policy, companies often stipulate that a CE Audit will be carried out independently on their behalf to ensure that the machinery is supplied correctly. This type of approach will be looked at in the Laidler Associates’ Machinery Safety Conference in September this year.
The speakers include Paul Laidler, outlining the requirements of the new Machinery Directive, Dai Davis looking at corporate manslaughter and Ronny Briers from Johnson & Johnson looking at how they deal with multi-site compliance. The day will close with David Kirton looking at the use of URS’s and how they can assist with compliance management. |
